COMPOSITION:

The Board of Supervisors may appoint alternate members who may sit on the Board in the absence of any regular members, and shall have the full power and authority of the regular member.

Board members shall be selected on the basis of their ability to render fair and competent decisions regarding application of the code, and shall to the extent possible, represent different occupational or professional fields.

At least one member should be an experienced builder, and at least one member should be a licensed professional engineer or architect.

DUTIES:

Shall act on application for appeals as required by Section 36-105 of the Code of Virginia; or shall enter into an agreement with the governing body of another county or municipality or with some other agency, or a State agency approved by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.

MEETING SCHEDULE:

The Board shall meet upon notice of the chairman or at stated periodic meetings if warranted by the volume of work.

The Board shall meet within ten working days of the filing of an appeal.

FIRE BOARD CODE OF APPEALS:

On August 19, 1997, the Board designated the County's Building Code Board of Adjustments and Appeals to be serve as the Fire Code Board of Appeals

The Board shall appoint two alternates (a) a person registered as a design professional with fire protection engineering experience or a fire protection contractor with at least ten years experience, and (b) an alternate with electrical engineering experience.

Upon any appeal from the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, such alternative members shall be first called by the Chairman of the Building Code Board of Appeals to hear the appeal.
