ADVISORY BOARD: 

Nine (9) members representing the entire Fifth Planning District. Representative for Roanoke County recommended and appointed by LOA but ratified by Roanoke County.

ADVISORY COUNCIL: 

Twenty-seven (27) members; one (1) Roanoke County appointee; to serve a one (1) year term, and may be re-appointed.

DUTIES:

Assure that a system of services for the aging be developed.

Coordinate and evaluate existing services.

Identify unmet needs of older persons.

Serve as a strong advocate for the aging population.

Educate the general public of the conditions of the elderly citizenry.

Advise local planning bodies on all aging issues.

Act as grantee and the administering agency for programs and services.

Serve as the Area Agency on Aging.

Provide elderly persons and handicapped persons with housing facilities, and services specially designed to meet their physical, social and psychological needs.

Buy, own, sell, assign, mortgage or lease any interest in real estate and personal property and to construct, maintain and operate improvements necessary or incident to the accomplishments of the purposes set forth in the Articles.

THE ADVISORY BOARD SHALL:

Carry out the policies and instructions of the League in a manner consistent with the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws.

Create committees and delegate authority to the committees for carrying out the objectives of this organization.

MEETING SCHEDULE:

Advisory Board and Advisory Council meet on alternate months.
