COMPOSITION:
To consist of not less than five (5) members, appointed by the Board of Supervisors and representing each Magisterial District.
Members will serve four-year terms.
Members can only serve three consecutive terms.
DUTIES:
Formulate the policies, which will provide public library service to all residents. Additional policies, revisions or deletions, may be enacted at any regular Library Board meeting where three members are present.
Recommend to the County Administrator for appointment a Library Director who meets the qualifications recommended by the Virginia State Board for the certification of librarians, and who possesses other qualities deemed necessary for the position of Library Director.
Develop the goals of the library and secure funding to carry on the programs.
Know the programs and needs of the library in relation to the community and keep informed of library standards and trends.
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
Know local and state laws and support library legislation in the state and nation.
Establish library policies dealing with book and material selection.
Attend all Board meetings and see that accurate records are kept on file at the library.
Report regularly to the governing officials and the general public.
MEETING SCHEDULE:
The regular meetings shall meet ten (10) times during the year, the dates and hour to be set by the board at its annual meeting.
The annual meeting, which shall be for the purpose of the election of officers, shall be held on the 4th Wednesday in January of each year at the regular time.
