Criminal Division

The purpose of this information is to better inform the general public of procedural matters. Nothing contained herein is intended to advise anyone as to legal remedies for a particular circumstance. Circuit Court Clerks and their Deputy Clerks cannot render legal advice.


The Criminal Division of the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court is responsible for creating and maintaining records on all criminal cases heard in the Circuit Court of Roanoke County.

          A. Appealed Misdemeanors & Traffic
          B. Case Management
          C. Felonies

However, we are prohibited by law from giving legal advice, restating the law or recommending legal action. Questions regarding interpretation of the law should be directed to an attorney licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Criminal cases are fully searchable in the public records room of the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court on the second floor of the Roanoke County Courthouse.  

The Criminal Division accepts payment for criminal fines by cash, personal check, certified check, VISA or MasterCard (but currently not by telephone), at the discretion of the Clerk.

Grand Jury convenes the first Friday of February, April, June, October and December and the second Friday in August, all at 9:00 a.m.
