Fictitious Name Certificates

The forms necessary to register a fictitious (assumed) name may be obtained from the Circuit Court Clerk's office, the Commissioner of the Revenue's office or the Supreme Court of Virginia's website forms page.
Complete the necessary forms and have all signatures acknowledged by a Notary Public or Deputy Clerk of Circuit Court. Include $15 for the filing fee, $2 to certify a copy of the form to be returned to you and $.50 for each page to be copied. If you are mailing the form, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Payment may be made by cash or check.
The fictitious name certificate may also be completed while obtaining your business license at the Commissioner of the Revenue's Office.
Fictitious name documents for businesses in Roanoke County are fully searchable in the public records room of the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court on the second floor of the Roanoke County Courthouse.
