Engineering
The Roanoke County Engineering Department has a long standing record of cooperation in design and review of County Projects. The Department has been at the forefront of major regional engineering projects in cooperation with all regional municipalities, public/private partnerships, and several educational institutions.
Major accomplishments and projects
of the department include:
The design and construction of a Regional Stormwater Management Facility, the first in the Region to integrate water quality and quantity in design and construction.
- Leaders in the grant award, development and management of Regional Army Corp of Engineering Photo Mapping Project.
- Continued partnership with VDOT in all major road construction projects.
- In partnership with VDOT's administration of the Six Year Road Plan.
- DCR Compliant Erosion and Sediment control program.
- Design and construction of DCR endorsed low impact septic systems at Explore Park.
- Design of County water distribution systems Capital Improvement Projects
- Flood Plain designation and flood emergency preparedness
- GIS system to integrate the County of Roanoke's real estate and tax assessment information.
- Completion of digital mapping of all county water and sanitary sewer infrastructures
- Continual work on storm sewer mapping
- Development of the County Greenway system
- Development of Enterprise Information System integration, including Building permits, CAMA (computer aided mass appraisal), and real estate billing.
- Land Use, Blue Ridge Parkway Viewsheds and watershed priority assessment and planning.
- Development of the Center for Research and Technology
