The fire scorched more than 4,000 acres, but crews were able to save and protect 64 structures at a value of more than 16.5 million dollars. The Department received the Governor's Virginia Fire Service Award for its response to the Green Ridge Mountain Fire. The Department was chosen for the Outstanding Fire Department Response award because officials quickly called for help from other agencies and coordinated efforts with them to fight the wildfire.
