Alternative Disposal

Effective July 1, 2008

Roanoke County citizens are eligible for 20 free drop-offs a year at the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority’s Tinker Creek Transfer Station.

Vehicles hauling refuse must be less than a 3/4 ton pickup truck. This program is designed for items that come from your principal residence in Roanoke County, and not a contracted job.

Transfer station

The Tinker Creek Transfer Station is located at 1020 Hollins Road, two blocks east of the Roanoke Civic Center. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

 

NEW PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE

The Roanoke Valley Resource Authority now accepts the following materials from Roanoke Valley citizens (this does not apply to businesses) during normal operating hours:

  • Lead acid automobile batteries
  • Latex paint
  • Used oil
  • Use antifreeze

Restricted Items

The following items are excluded from free drop offs: any type of roofing material (shingles, tar paper, etc.), concrete, asphalt, rocks. If you have any questions as to whether or not your material and/or vehicle qualifies for this program, please call 387-6225.
