About Picnic Shelter Reservations...

  1. Reservations for picnic shelter rentals are taken for the April-October season beginning February 1st of each year.
  2. Roanoke County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism has 14 parks with picnic shelters. Shelters are available on a first come, first serve basis at no charge, unless the shelter has been specifically reserved.
  3. Groups interested in using a shelter are urged to make advance reservations by calling our Administrative office at (540) 387-6078 ext. 0 to guarantee the use of a particular shelter, on a certain day, during a specific time.
  4. Special preparation is given to reserved facilities. Therefore a reservation fee is charged to offset the expense incurred. Upon confirmation, a receipt and park reservation permit will be forwarded to the group’s contact person.
  5. No refunds will be given for cancellations - rescheduling is encouraged during the current rental season.
  6. All cancellations must be received at least by 4 o'clock on the last business day before your reservation (i.e. call on Friday to cancel Sunday).
  7. A cancellation with proper notice may be rescheduled before October 31 of the current year. Reservations are available for a HALF-DAY (from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) for groups of under 300, or ALL DAY reservations (from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m).

Rental Rates are as follows:

0 - 151 people:

 1/2 day $25  All day $50

151-300 people:

 1/2 day $40 May have to pay direct costs

151-300 people:

 All day $80 May have to pay direct costs

301-500 people:

 All day only $125  Plus all direct costs

501-1000 people:

 All day only $300 Plus all direct costs

over 1001 people:

 All day only. Fees negotiated

For groups under 150 people, payment is required in full within 5 working days. Send payment to:

Groups of more than 150 people need to complete a Special Use Application. Please note that submission of the application does not constitute approval. The group contact person will be notified of approval and all other details.

Large group park facilities are as follows:

  • 300 to 500 people - Green Hill, Darrell Shell, Vinyard, and Walrond
  • 500 to 1000 people - Green Hill and Vinyard
  • 1000 people & up - Green Hill Only
