Camp Roanoke originally opened in 1925 as a camp for boys. Through the years hundreds of kids from all over the area spent their summers enjoying the camp life. In the late 1980’s Camp Roanoke closed, also in this time period the property on which the camp sits was purchased by Roanoke County as part of the watershed needed to construct nearby Spring Hollow Reservoir.

Roanoke County, seeing the potential and sensing the need began fundraising and renovation efforts to bring the camp back to life. The camp sits on 110 acres of mountain land surrounded by 600+ acres of reservoir property, with brilliant views of Sunset peak and the surrounding mountains. Facilities at the camp include accommodations for 64-80 kids, a newly renovated dining hall, a large pavilion, the high and low challenge course, a 50 ft tall climbing tower, a multi-sport play court for basketball and tennis, and plenty of green grass and open space.

The future for Camp Roanoke is bright!  Roanoke County continues to improve the facilities at camp, as well as expand the outdoor recreation opportunities available there.  And the fun doesn't end on-site.  Campers now experience specialized off-site high adventure activities such as Rock Climbing, Caving, Backpacking, Kayaking, Canoeing and multi-day trips.

Camp Roanoke is the perfect site to host programs for adults, senior adults, and special populations. The dining hall, meeting rooms and the Challenge Course will be available for businesses, organizations, and families to conduct retreats, reunions, conferences, and meetings.
