The Planning Commission serves as an advisory board to the Board of Supervisors, making recommendations on a variety of land use issues, such as rezonings, special use permits, greenways, special development ordinances and changes and updates to the Zoning Ordinance. The Commission is also charged with preparing and maintaining the Community Plan, and recommending changes to reflect new land use policies. Additionally the Commission undertakes special projects and develops programs designed to ensure the implementation of policies and programs contained in the Community Plan.
The Commission has meetings twice a month on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Public hearings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of the month, at 7:00 p.m., in the Roanoke County Administration Center located at 5204 Bernard Drive in Southwest Roanoke County.
