On November 1, 2005, the Roanoke County Police Department changed to new a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Software (RMS) Systems. This new software is just the beginning of new and exciting changes for the Police Department.
Calls for Service data is collected through the CAD system when an officer is dispatched to a request for service by a citizen or when the officer initiates the activity (such as stopping a vehicle or checking a building).
Offense data is collected through RMS when an officer submits an Offense Report or other type of paperwork to the Records Sections.
Not all Calls for Service result in a written report.
