- The annual real estate tax is based on the January 1 assessed value and a real estate tax rate determined each year by the County Board of Supervisors. See the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors web page for more information.
- If your property is within the boundaries of the Town of Vinton, the Vinton Town Council determines town taxes over and above any taxes set forth by the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors. Contact the Town of Vinton Treasurer for more information.
- The Treasurer is responsible for the collection of all taxes paid to the County.
- There are more than 44,500 parcels of land in Roanoke County. For more interesting demographics, please visit 'Community Profile' on the Economic Development website.
- Each land deed in Roanoke County has to be recorded in Circuit Court.
- The Commissioner of the Revenue's staff reads all recorded deeds and prepares the bills for real estate.
- Real estate tax bills are mailed twice a year, once in April and again in October.
