Civil Process Information

One of the primary objectives of the Court Services Division is to serve all civil process papers in a timely manner. In the fiscal year 2004/05, the Civil Process Servers served 32,665 papers in Roanoke County that were issued by local courts, other courts throughout the state, as well as out-of-state courts. There are currently 3 Civil Process Servers working for the Sheriff’s Office.
The Roanoke County Sheriff's Office Civil Division is open Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Service fees** for civil process are as follows:
- In-state service = $12.00 per paper
- Out-of-state service = $75.00 per person
**Fees for service of civil process must be paid in advance to the court of jurisdiction. Return of service will be forwarded to the appropriate court of jurisdiction. Roanoke County Sheriff's Office only serves civil process paperwork that has a valid Roanoke County address.
