Real Estate Tax

The Treasurers office is responsible for collection of all current and delinquent Real Estate Tax.

This office is also responsible for updating address changes for billing purposes.  Processing payments from settlement companies and attorneys for Real Estate closings and updating mortgage lending information on the property record.

Additionally the Treasurer is instructed by State Code to initiate and conduct Real Estate Auctions "Judicial Sales" for delinquent taxes. Visit the Judicial Sales page for more information.

Real Estate assessments are determined by the Office of Real Estate Valuation each year based upon the fair market value as of January 1 of that year. Assessing property is an involved process, therefore, interested citizens who would like more precise details are encouraged to contact Real Estate Valuation at (540) 772-2035.

The Real Estate Tax rate is set by the Board of Supervisors for the County of Roanoke.  This Rate is usually set in March of each year during the completion of the County's budget just prior to April Billing.
