1. Where is the Roanoke County / Salem jail located?

The jail is located at 401 East Main Street, in Salem, Virginia. From Interstate 81, take Exit 140 (Salem / Roanoke College), Thompson Memorial Boulevard to East Main Street. The jail / courthouse complex is located at the intersection of Thompson Memorial and East Main Street on the right side of the street. Additional parking can be found across Thompson Memorial Boulevard behind the convenience store.

2. How can I transfer money to an inmate's account?

A secured drop-box is located in the main lobby of the jail facility for the purpose of receiving cash or money orders for inmates. No checks will be accepted. Cash or money orders may also be mailed to the inmate and will be posted to their account upon receipt.

3. Can I make a phone call to someone being held at the Roanoke County / Salem Jail?

Inmates are not allowed to receive incoming calls. Inmates are only allowed to make outgoing collect calls. However, the jail does not limit the number of calls they can make during normal hours of operation.

If you do not wish to receive collect calls from an inmate, simply refuse to accept the charges or call the jail docket office at (540)387-6141 and request that a block be placed on your phone number.
