Pleased be advised that four (4) members of the Board of Supervisors of Roanoke County, Virginia are scheduled to attend the 28th Annual Meeting of the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau on May 22, 2013, at BraeLoch in Vinton, Virginia from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are held at the Roanoke County Administration Center, 5204 Bernard Drive, SW, Roanoke, VA 24018. The meeting dates are set forth below with public hearings scheduled for 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise advertised. Any change to this schedule will be advertised at least two weeks in advance. The Board meeting are broadcast live on RVTV, Channel 3, and will be rebroadcast following the meeting on Thursday, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

Bulk and brush will be picked up for streets designated for A Week pick-up. Bulk and brush is collected every other week on your regular garbage collection day.

Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Virginia Household Water Quality Program will host the “Roanoke Valley Drinking Water Clinic”, for citizens whose water supply comes from wells, springs or cisterns. The “Kick-Off” meeting is on Monday, May 20, 2013, 6:00 p.m., at the South County Library, 6303 Merriman Rd., where participants will receive instructions and the water sample kit. The sample “Drop-Off” day is Wednesday, May 22, between 7:30 and 10:00 a.m. The “Interpretation Meeting” will be on Monday, June 17, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., where participants get their confidential results along with an educational program explaining the results and possible treatment options. The water will be tested for: iron, sodium, fluoride, coliform bacteria, manganese, copper, pH, E. coli bacteria, sulfate, nitrate, total dissolved solids, lead, hardness and arsenic. The audience is invited to reminisce with Mrs. Lincoln about her childhood, her days in Springfield and her children as she celebrates Tad's 12th birthday and the end of the Civil War. Drawing from her own letters to friends, family and political figures of the era, Mrs. Lincoln's Salon paints a picture of Mary Lincoln that is both sympathetic and truthful.
