Homework can be a pain, no doubt about it. On this page, you will find some resources that are intended to help allay some of the frustrations associated with homework. And if you get bored, you can stare at this comic panel. If anybody bugs you, tell them you're doing research.

Research databases are a great way to find information on a number of topics. They are free to use, and count as outside resources for a paper.

YA Research Databases

InfoTrac is a database of magazine and newspaper articles covering a variety of subjects (access from home via FindItVa) It also has a multitude of materials, like scientific papers and radio recordings that you can listen to by downloading. A wonderful general research resource.

Mango Languages
Mango Languages is an online language-learning system that can help you learn Spanish, Pirate, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian, and more. 

Main Street Newspapers

As a community news source, Our provides access to archives of area newspapers, including Vinton Messenger, Salem Times- Register, Cave Spring Connection, and Blue Ridge Family Magazine. The source also provides access to Fincastle, Montgomery, New Castle, and Radford papers. Good if you're doing a report on a local person or community event.

Newsbank (Roanoke Times) 
Newsbank provides access to full-text articles on local news, issues, events, and people, as well as current and archived issues of Roanoke Times. Updated daily, it includes obituaries, editorials, announcements, and other sections.
