About Us
Our Mission
Roanoke County ECC Communications Officers are first responders who work in conjunction with emergency medical services, fire, and law enforcement personnel of Roanoke County and the Town of Vinton to save lives, protect property, and stop crime. In the furtherance of this mission, the ECC provides cross-agency communication and community education.

Our Values
Preserve and Advance the Values of the Republic
Uphold the values of this country as embodied in the Constitution of the United States of America and dedicate ourselves to the preservation of life, individual freedoms, and justice for all persons.

Improve the Quality of Community Life
Understand the importance of community values and expectations; be responsive to the concerns of all persons; and encourage the expansion of their role in helping the community become a better living environment.

Ensure a safe and healthy work environment for public safety personnel while mitigating injury and loss of life within our service community.

Respect the dignity of all persons; follow the principles of integrity, fairness, and impartiality; and
employ courtesy and respect in official dealings with public safety personnel and our service community.

Recognize the dependence of our success on the public’s confidence in our abilities. Therefore, always engage in behavior which is beyond reproach and reflects the integrity of our profession.

Demonstrate care and ability as public safety employees, while providing valuable services to all persons, promoting the Department, and advancing our profession.

Strive to cultivate effective working relationships with other governmental public safety and private service agencies in pursuit of mutual goals.

Quality Service

Exhibit the highest possible service quality in emergency communications to the public.

Devote time and attention to the effective and professional performance of our responsibilities.

Endeavor to meet or exceed nationally recognized public safety standards in every duty undertaken and pledge to establish and maintain high performance standards to ensure continued public confidence.

Our Commitment to Excellence
Roanoke County ECC is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. There are less than 100 public safety communications centers nationwide with this distinction. Furthermore, all ECC Communications Officers maintain CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification. EMD enables a Communications Officer to assist citizens over the phone with medical instructions until a first responder can treat the patient.
