Picture of burnt container
Each household is provided with one specialized container, which is easily rolled to the street on collection day. It is the only type of container that can be serviced by the automated truck.
- The container is assigned to the property address. Please do not take the container with you when you move.
- The County will replace stolen containers or containers that have been damaged through regular use. We will repair those containers that are repairable. However, residents must pay for the replacement of any container that is damaged due to their negligence or abuse.
- Please do not place hot ashes or charcoal in the can. Residents whose cans burn must purchase another container.
Your assistance in caring for the container will help reduce our costs of operation, which are funded by a portion of your tax dollars.
Disposal of Needles, Syringes, and Other "Sharps":
Please place these materials in a hard plastic container with a top/lid, such as a laundry detergent bottle which uses thicker plastic than other containers. Please remember to put the lid on the container securely. Double-bag the container and place the bag in your garbage container for disposal. For questions, please contact the Solid Waste Division at 387-6225.
Purchasing an Additional Container
At the current time, we are not selling additional containers from our inventory. However, occasionally, local hardware stores sell containers similar to the ones we use. Residents should be aware that Roanoke County will not repair or replace these purchased containers should they become damaged or lost in the truck.
