Roanoke County provides free, weekly, curbside collection of garbage to licensed commercial establishments (including churches and church-run daycares), generating not more than three County-provided automated containers per week. The County will not provide collection to any apartment, office, or retail complex of more than five commercial establishments or to mobile home parks of any size. Commercial establishments generating over 300 gallons of refuse per week are required to secure private collection.

For businesses to be considered for collection, the following conditions must be met:

• Completion of Commercial Application. 
• Upon receipt of the completed application, the Solid Waste Supervisor will verify that collection is feasible. 
• The County will provide licensed commercial establishments one container at no cost; the commercial establishment may purchase up to two additional containers. Currently, we are unable to sell additional containers due to budget constraints. 
• Commercial customers are subject to the rules pertaining to standard automated collection and all other County Solid Waste rules and procedures. 
• Containers must be at the curb on the scheduled collection day by 7 a.m. and removed by 7 a.m. the day after collection. 
• Bulk/brush or bagged leaf collection is not available to commercial customers.

Backdoor household waste collection will be provided to residential customers when everyone living in the structure is disabled or handicapped and unable to transport the container to the curb. A physician's certification of handicaps or disabilities is required for all individuals residing in the household.  Physically-challenged residents are required to renew this certification on an annual basis.

• Customers receiving this service are limited to one container.
• Only bagged refuse will be collected.
• Customers will be subject to all automated collection guidelines except placing the container to the curb.
• Bags are limited in weight to 30 lbs.
• This service is not available for bulk and brush collection.

Optional backdoor service may be available to residential customers for household waste only by application.  The charge for premium backdoor collection will be a minimum of $15 per month and will include service up to 100 feet from the curbside pickup location.  For each additional 100 feet or fraction thereof, an additional $10 charge will be assessed.  The premium garbage collection charges are paid monthly.

• Completion of Premium Refuse Contract.
• Customers receiving this service are limited to one container.
• All materials placed in container for collection must be bagged.
• Customers will be subject to all automated collection guidelines except placing the container to the curb.
• Bags are limited in weight to 30 lbs.
• This service is not available for bulk and brush collection.

Roanoke County may, at its option, provide weekly garbage collection to nearby (residents located on the borders of with Roanoke County) residents of other localities upon application and approval.  A monthly fee of $20 will be required in addition to a $1 a month fee for the container rental. 

The following conditions apply for this service:
Completion of Non-Roanoke County Resident Garbage Collection Application.
Upon approval, customers will be billed $21 each month for service.
Customers are limited to one container.
Customers are not eligible for bulk and brush collection.
Botetourt County residents who live on Carvins Cove Road are the only residents in Botetourt County that are eligible for this service.  Botetourt County residents may contact the Botetourt County Public Works Department for more information.
