Roanoke County provides Geographic Information Services to support the needs of citizens and businesses. On June 22, 2009, Roanoke County launched the latest upgrade to its GIS Mapping Application. GIS Mapping Application

Weekly maintenance to the GIS system occurs every Sunday evening between the hours of 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. Users may not be able to access the system during this time.

GIS Mapping FAQs

What is GIS? 
GIS stands for Geographic Information System that manages geographically-referenced information by integrating a database and a mapping software. Information is input into the system in "layers" and the mapping system shows various layers chosen by the user.

What types of information does Roanoke County's GIS System show users?
Our GIS sytem contains layers for real estate parcels, flood zones, magisterial districts, school boundaries, and much more.

What are "scanned construction plans"?
All site plans for new and most existing construction projects occurring in the County of Roanoke are digitally scanned and indexed using our scanned construction plan web service. The scanned images in TIFF format can be accessed by Project Name, Address (by block) and Project Number. This web service can be accessed at:
