Trash Collection

ANNOUNCEMENT: Bagged leaf collection begins November 2 and will continue weekly through the week of December 7, 2009. THERE WILL BE NO LOOSE LEAF COLLECTION.
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO SOLID WASTE ORDINANCE EFFECTIVE 10/14/08

All trash placed in the County-issued container for weekly collection must now be bagged.

In ALL areas of the County, trash containers must be removed at least 10 feet from the street by 7:00 AM the day following collection.

County personnel will now collect small amounts of home owner generated building material during bulk collection. The material must be no more than a 6'x6'x6' pile (a pickup truck load) and must not contain any roofing shingles, concrete, bricks, asphalt. No material coming from contracted work will be collected.

County personnel will now collect pieces of brush or wood up to 12 inches in diameter and small stumps of the same size or less that are free of dirt, rock, and other debris.

Any citizen wishing to obtain a second container must purchase it. No more than two containers are allowed per household.

Any container damaged by fire shall be replaced at the expense of the homeowner.

Curbside household trash collection is provided each week to Roanoke County residents and many businesses.

Be aware of holidays that may affect garbage collection.

Handles must be turned away from the street. The container should be placed at the street with the handles closest to the house.

Do not block access to the can (i.e. mailbox, vehicles).
