Vinton Area Corridors Plan

The County of Roanoke and the Town of Vinton are working jointly to create a future development plan for the major corridors throughout the Vinton area. This project aims to create a strategy for improving the aesthetics and the safety along the following corridors: Bypass Road, Hardy Road, South Pollard Street, Virginia Avenue, Walnut Avenue and Washington Avenue. This corridor area consists of 7.6 miles of corridor area and 555 corridor parcels. Click here to see a map of the study area boundary.
Community Meetings
January 29th, 2009 - The first community meeting sessions were held at the Vinton War Memorial. Two meeting sessions were held in the North Ballroom from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 4:00 - 7:00 PM. Each session was held in an identical, open-house style format. Approximately 50 people attended the community meeting sessions. June 18, 2009 - The second community meeting was held at the Vinton War Memorial. The meeting agenda consisted of an Open House from 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM with a formal Presentation at 7:00 PM. Among the items persented were Community Survey Results, Future Land Use Scenarios and draft goals and recommendations.

January 20, 2009 - The Roanoke County and City of Roanoke Planning Commission joint work session was held at the Roanoke County Administration Center. March 12, 2009 - The Town of Vinton Planning Commission held a work session to discuss the community survey results. Click here to the survey results.

March 28, 2009 - The Special Meeting of the Roanoke County and Town of Vinton Planning Commissions was held at the Vinton Municipal Building and included a tour of the Vinton area corridors. Click for the Special Meeting Notice.
July 10, 2009 - The Roanoke County Planning Commission and Roanoke City Planning Commission held a joint meeting. Among the agenda items discussed at this meeting was an update on the status of the Vinton Area Corridors Plan. Click here for a copy of the minutes.
July 21, 2009 - The Roanoke County Planning Commission held a work session to discuss the draft goals and recommendations, as well as the Future Land Use Scenarios presented at the community meeting held in June. Click here for a copy of the presentation.
August 11, 2009 - The information presented at the July 21st meeting was also presented to the Town of Vinton Planning Commissioners at a meeting.
October 8, 2009 - The Town of Vinton Planning Commission is holding a work session to discuss the Future Land Use amendments proposed along the study corridors within the Town boundaries.
December 7, 2009 - The Roanoke County and Town of Vinton Planning Commissions will hold a joint public hearing to receive comments on the draft Vinton Area Corridors Plan. Click here for the meeting notice.
