Crime Prevention & Information

We are committed to participation in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs designed to anticipate, deter, or reduce crime. This proactive approach is intended to enhance community involvement in the identification and resolution of criminal activities. The Crime Prevention Coordinator coordinates with other Department divisions to enhance the Department’s crime control and prevention initiatives.

Programs

Citizens' Public Safety Academy is held for citizens to learn more about the Police Department, Fire Department, and Sheriff’s Office and their functions.
Neighborhood Watch programs help local residents become active participants in reducing crime.
Project Lifesaver is a program designed to quickly locate individuals with cognitive disorders who are prone to the life-threatening behavior of wandering.
Security Assessments of buildings using the principles of crime prevention through environmental design are offered for structures within Roanoke County.
Department participation in and hosting of community events in order to promote police-community partnerships.
Presentations on crime prevention and safety topics.
