In the late 2000s and early 2010s, the investigation and trial of Jodi Arias for the murder of her boyfriend captivated much of America and created many sensational headlines. Arias was convicted of the murder, despite her claims of self-defense and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The case has received newfound attention in the past year due to the disbarment of the prosecuting attorney who won a conviction against Arias, and a recently released documentary.

The D.C. Sniper Attacks

The first decade of the new millennium was fraught with terror and destruction, from 9/11, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, to Hurricane Katrina. The D.C. sniper attacks of October 2002 could be added to that list, as everyday people were gunned down at random over the course of several weeks. Before the snipers were apprehended, 17 people were killed and 10 others were wounded.
