    Regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are held at the Roanoke County Administrator Center - 5204 Bernard Drive, SW - Roanoke, Virginia 24018. The meetings are held at 3:00 p.m. Any changes to this schedule will be advertised at least two weeks in advance. The Board meetings are broadcast live on RVTV, Channel 3, and will be rebroadcast following the meeting on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

    The Catawba Valley Farmer's Market (CVFM) is held at the Catawba Community Center, located at 4965 Catawba Creek Road, Catawba, VA 24070. The Farmer's Market is held each Thursday from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m., mid-May to mid-October, rain or shine. The mission of the Catawba Valley Farmers Market is to foster community fellowship while providing the Catawba community and nearby areas with fresh, locally produced food and traditional handicrafts. All foods and handicrafts are required to be grown/produced within 100 miles of the Market, but most are grown/produced within just a few miles.

    The Soviet Union's downing of the American U-2 spy plane piloted by Francis Gary Powers in 1960 was a pivotal event of the Cold War. Using personal files and recently-declassified documents about the U-2 program, his son, Francis Gary Powers, Jr., and historian Keith Dunnavant revisit this bit of history in their new book "Spy Pilot: Francis Gary Powers, the U-2 Incident, and a Controversial Cold War Legacy." Gary Powers, Jr., founder of The Cold War Museum and consultant for Spielberg’s 2015 movie "Bridge of Spies", which portrays his father’s exchange for Soviet spy Rudolf Abel in 1962, will discuss the controversy that surrounded his father and what the family has done to set the record straight.
