The Soviet Union's downing of the American U-2 spy plane piloted by Francis Gary Powers in 1960 was a pivotal event of the Cold War. Using personal files and recently-declassified documents about the U-2 program, his son, Francis Gary Powers, Jr., and historian Keith Dunnavant revisit this bit of history in their new book "Spy Pilot: Francis Gary Powers, the U-2 Incident, and a Controversial Cold War Legacy."
Gary Powers, Jr., founder of The Cold War Museum and consultant for Spielberg’s 2015 movie "Bridge of Spies", which portrays his father’s exchange for Soviet spy Rudolf Abel in 1962, will discuss the controversy that surrounded his father and what the family has done to set the record straight.
