Apply for a Library Card
Library Card Information
It’s easy to get a library card. If you’re a resident of Virginia, you can receive your free library card from any Roanoke Valley public library or bookmobile.
If you already have a physical Roanoke Valley Library card, you don’t need to sign up for an eCard! Your current card can be used for online services and physical items. Only one card of either type is permitted per user.
Library Cards allow you to:
- Check out eBooks, eMagazines, and eAudiobooks.
- Place Items on hold through our catalog at rvl.info.
- Access our virtual library’s online resources like Mango Languages, Consumer Reports, and Lynda.com.
Applying for a Card (& Receive a Physical Card via Curbside)
Come to the library, complete an application via curbside or fill out a form online. Please bring your photo ID that includes your current address (or a photo ID with a non-current address with a check, bank statement, utility bill, etc. that lists your current address). If you filled out the online form, we will ask for you to sign your application when you arrive. Your library card will be issued immediately and is yours to use at any of the public libraries in the Roanoke Valley.
Please note: Children 12 years of age and under may get a library card with the signature and identification of a parent or guardian. Temporary cards for out-of-state visitors are available for a fee. Call us for more details. Cards must be renewed every two years.
There is a $1 replacement charge for lost or damaged cards.
