It’s easy to get a library card. If you’re a resident of Virginia, you can receive your free library card from any Roanoke Valley public library or bookmobile.
Library Cards allow you to:
Check out eBooks, eMagazines, and eAudiobooks.
Place Items on hold through our catalog at rvl.info.
Access our virtual library’s online resources like Mango Languages, US Major Dailies, The Roanoke Times, Consumer Reports, and more.
Applying for a Card
Come to the library and complete an application during operating hours. Please bring your photo ID that includes your current address (or a photo ID with a non-current address with a check, bank statement, utility bill, etc. that lists your current address).
Please note: Children 12 years of age and under may get a library card with the signature and identification of a parent or guardian. Temporary cards for out-of-state visitors are available for a fee. Call us for more details. Cards must be renewed every two years.
There is a $1 replacement charge for lost or damaged cards.
