New Pickleball Courts at Waldron Park!
Additional pickleball courts were recently constructed at Walrond Park. These will be available all day until 11:00 PM each night, seven days a week. The park also includes accommodations for players such as a picnic shelter, a walking trail, and restrooms.
Friendship Retirement Community
Friendship Retirement Community opened a new Transitional Care Unit at the North campus in Hollins. Friendship worked with Hughes Associates Architects & Engineers to develop the new TCU, which offers 60 rooms that provide residents with more privacy, as the rooms have their own bathrooms with showers. Jersey Mike's opened their second location in the Roanoke Valley near the intersection of Peters Creek Road and Williamson Road in a shared building with Dunkin'. A third location is opening in front of Tanglewood.
Paved Walking Trail at Hollins Park is Open Now:
Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism celebrated the ribbon cutting of a new paved trail in Hollins Park, offering a better surface to walk and enjoy nature.
Vistar Eye Center:
Vistar Eye Center celebrated a grand opening for a new facility at 6125 Airport Road in Hollins. The new location offers retinal eye care, anterior surgical eye care, as well as routine and primary eye care.
Hollins Library Replacement Project:

Plantation Road Shared Use Path Tree Plantings:

Tru by Hilton open on Gander Way:
A new four story Tru by Hilton recently opened in the Plan area. The hotel offers rooms and suites. Just 10 minutes from the airport and close to Carvins Cove and Read Mountain Preserves and Splash Valley Waterpark, the hotel is located on Gander Way.
In 2018, Roanoke County identified the Hollins Center study area as an opportunity for investment due to its proximity to Interstate 81 and Hollins University; because it has the highest concentration of employment in the County; and for its multiple redevelopment opportunities. The Hollins Center Plan will guide future decisions and actions in Hollins over the next 10 to 20 years. The plan explores opportunities to develop higher density, mixed-use activity areas in the existing commercial corridors.

VDOT is conducting a multimodal transportation between Peters Creek Road at Wood Haven Road and Williamson Road at Plantation Road. Study partners include Roanoke County, the Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization, Valley Metro and Whitman, Requardt and Associates. The study will identify project recommendations to improve:
Roadway safety and reliability;
Bicycle, pedestrian and transit accessibility; and
Transportation demand management needs.
