  • In Roanoke County, the maintenance of medians has always been the responsibility of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Because of the budget shortfall, VDOT announced earlier this year that it would be cutting back on the frequency of its mowing. Because it takes special equipment to mow medians and roadsides, Roanoke County does not have the equipment necessary to perform this function.   • Several Roanoke County neighborhoods are bound by train tracks. Stopped trains on these tracks may prevent residents from reaching their homes, or may delay the arrival of emergency personnel to these neighborhoods. If a stopped train is blocking a railroad crossing into your neighborhood, call the Norfolk & Southern Emergency number at 1-800-453-2530 to report this issue.
