East Roanoke River Greenway through Explore Park

Overview

What is going on?

A section of the Roanoke River Greenway through Explore Park is under construction. This segment will continue the Roanoke River Greenway from the closed Roanoke Regional Landfill off of Rutrough Road owned by the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority, through Explore Park to Rutrough Point at the end of Rutrough Road. Roanoke County awarded the construction contract to Allegheny Construction Company, Inc. (Allegheny), and construction management is being provided by McDonough Bolyard Peck (MBP). The design engineer for the project is AECOM.

What is the timeline?

The greenway project started construction in November 2024 and is anticipated to be complete in Spring 2026.
