Route 460/Challenger Avenue Projects

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the City of Roanoke held a design public hearing on August 22, 2024, to provide information about projects to improve safety and traffic flow on Route 460 (Orange Avenue/Challenger Avenue/Blue Ridge Boulevard) between Blue Hills Drive in the City of Roanoke and Avery Row in Botetourt County. A total of 187 people attended the meeting held at Bonsack Elementary School.

The projects include improvements at six (6) intersections along Route 460 (Challenger Avenue) in Roanoke County:

West Ruritan Road
Carson Road
East Ruritan Road / Bonsack Road
Country Corner Store (4273 Challenger Avenue)
Huntridge Road
Cloverdale Road (U.S. Route 220 Alternate)
